The Professional Business Manager™ program's work environment is designed to be efficient and intuitive for the user.
The Toolbar, Data Bar, and Status Bar can be hidden or displayed using the View menu.
The Workspace pane can be closed by clicking on the X at the right of the Title Bar and can be restored using the View menu and selecting Company List. Additional Groups may be set up in the Workspace to show only selected clients. A group may be set up for each bookkeeper and/or supervisor with only clients applicable to that employee appearing in the list. Client Groups are available to all employees by default.
Security may be activated. When security is activated, each group is assigned to a specific employee. An employee will only see groups assigned to him or her. All groups are available to the Admin or Accountant user. To activate Client Group Security, log in as the Accountant user, open any client files and select the Accountant Tab from Setup/Options. Set the Value for Client Group Security to Yes.
The Company List/Workspace Pane can be detached from the program frame by clicking on the Title Bar of the Workspace Pane with your mouse and dragging it away. Sometimes this happens inadvertently, in which case you can reattach the Workspace Pane by simply going to the Menu Bar and selecting View/Company List which will automatically reattach it.

To add a new Client Group:
1. Right click in the Workspace.
2. Select New Group.

3. Enter a name for the Group.
4. Select the User this Group will be visible to if Client Group Security is set to Yes.

5. Select the desired Group from the drop-down list.
6. Right click in the Workspace and select Add Company.

7. Click on the desired file names to select. (All clients may be selected by right clicking and choosing Select All. Unselect
a file by clicking on the highlighted row.)
8. Click OK.

Many screens have an input grid as shown circled in red in the example
below.
These grids often contain columns that you will never use in your particular
business, such as Qty (Quantity),
for example. It also might be more convenient for your users to
have a different arrangement of the columns.

Click on the box in the upper left corner of the grid, as shown with the blue arrow in the example above, to open the Column Configuration screen.

There are three options in the State field for each column which are used as follows:
Normal - Causes the cursor to stop or not stop in the column depending upon the program default for the column.
Hidden - Removes the column from the grid.
Skip - Leaves the column in the grid but the cursor will skip the column when Entering (or Tabbing) through the grid. Cells in the column are still accessible with the Mouse. Use of this will greatly increase processing speed by reducing keystrokes.
Restore Column - Click an X into the box for a Column to restore a column when you have accidentally removed it or shrunk it up to nothing by accident.
Columns appear in the grid from right to left in the order listed on the Column Configuration screen. To change the order, highlight an item and use the up or down arrows at the top of the screen to move the item up or down in the list.
Changing the order of columns is often advantageous to match the flow of data from your input forms and source documents.

Click on any of the items in the Menu Bar for a drop-down list of dialog screens or commands. You can also access any menu item by pressing the Alt key and then tapping the underlined letter. For example, Alt then F will drop down the File menu. Tap the underlined letter of the command within the list to access the dialog screen or execute the command.
The Menu Bar can be detached from the program fame by clicking anywhere on the Menu Bar and dragging it with your mouse. Sometimes this can happen inadvertently. To reattach it, if you can see the Menu Bar, click on View/Menu Bar and it will automatically reattach. If you cannot find the Menu Bar, tap the Alt key, tap the M key, tap the V key, tap the M key and it will automatically reattach.

The Data Bar can be detached or restored using the View menu.
The Data Bar can be detached by clicking anywhere in the Data Bar and dragging it. If you see the Data Bar but it is detached from your program, then place the mouse pointer on the Title area of the Data Bar and double clicking with your mouse. If you cannot see it, then click on View/Data Bar once to turn it off and then once again to turn it back on at which point it will be reattached automatically.
Click on the downward arrow on the right side of the Data Bar to remove or add commands.

Position the Mouse Pointer over an item in the Data Bar and a short explanation of the command will appear.
